Our company went from people writing us off as selling to "paranoid doomsday preppers", to being an essential business that had a moral obligation to deliver as much emergency food as possible to everyone around the USA.
Our website traffic was 12x what it normally was. We took 20x the orders we normally had. Both happened overnight.
Our entire industry was thrust into chaos. No one could produce food fast enough. It was taking 6-10 weeks just to complete a single order. Some companies stopped taking orders altogether. Other companies shut down completely and never came back.
I'm proud to say we rose to the occasion. Our warehouse ran 24/7 for 4 months straight. While others were laying off their employees, we hired as many people as possible (within the mandated social distancing limits). While everyone else was being sent home, we were calling people in.
Things remained like this for the better part of the year before we had our footing. We increased our supply chain to keep up and even had some extra food on-hand for the first time in months.
Up until that point, food would go straight from the production line to an order. There was no inventory to speak of.
But finally, it was calming down.
Little did we know, it was only the eye of the storm. Chaos ensued again.
A group of people pushed their way into Congress. Covid resurged. War in the Ukraine broke out. Inflation. Recession. So much more.
We doubled our food production to once again keep up. Then doubled it again. Then told our team to keep doubling production until you hear otherwise.
We wanted to make sure we didn't run out of food and turn away those who needed it (you can tell we truly believe in being prepared.)
The problem is, months later, no one told our food production team to stop doubling food production. So they kept going until one day, you guessed it, we realized we had enough food in the warehouse to feed a city.
There are worse things to be than a preparedness company that is over prepared. But our mistake is your opportunity.
