Escape Routes Are A Part Of A Valid Plan

Escape Routes Are A Part Of A Valid PlanFor many people, having a survival plan can include making sure that the necessary provisions to weather a calamity are stocked up and close at hand. This can include things like food storage kits, plenty of water, first aid necessities, and even a way of communicating with relief efforts. However, there are situations where survival will come down to knowing how to reach safety, when the home environment is no longer an option.

Although there are a number of situations that can lead to this eventuality, some of the more important disasters that may lead to evacuation include:

• Earthquakes

• Hurricanes

• Flooding

• Mud slides

• Toxic spills

• Terror attacks

In these cases, the place of shelter itself can be in danger, which means that inhabitants will need to be able to find a way to safe ground.

Creating Plans B Through Z

One necessary consideration is the fact that evacuation routes may vary, depending upon the disaster that is being experienced. This means that roads which are normally appropriate for leaving the region may be impassable if they are washed out, collapsed, or covered in earth. For this reason, it can be a good idea to not only review regional evacuation routes that are given by relief agencies, but to also become familiar with a number of alternative ways.

This will also mean that any emergency or survival gear must be portable. These items can be pre-packed in a vehicle, but can also be stored in the residence in ready to go bags. Essentials for any type of evacuation should include:

• Water

• Food kits – these should be enough for all family members, for at least three days

• Emergency radio

• Clothes – extra changes, as well as layers for warmth should be included

• Maps – area, regional, and even national maps should be packed. It can also be helpful to have alternative routes marked.

• Flashlights and batteries

• First Aid

Making sure that these basic necessities of water, long term food storage, and a way to get to safety are all a part of the emergency plan is a good way to be ready for any type of disaster that can affect people, and places.
