FREEZE DRIED FRUIT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Freeze dried fruit often fills a different niche from fresh or canned fruit. It's light, airy and crunchy, but we do have a few common question we get.

IS FREEZE DRIED FRUIT GOOD FOR YOU?

Our bulk freeze dried fruit is just as healthy as fresh fruit. The freeze drying process preserves all the nutrition, vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRIED FRUIT AND FREEZE DRIED FRUIT?

Dried fruit usually refers to dehydrated fruit. This process involves exposing the fruit to low heat and air movement to slowly dry out the fruit. The dehydration process can be fine for some purposes, but it does leave the fruit tougher, often leathery, and shriveled up. Think of raisins vs. grapes. Freeze drying fruit, on the other hand, involves quickly freezing the fruit in a vacuum then letting the ice sublimate into vapor, leaving the fruit the same size, shape and color it was originally, just without the moisture . This has a much more airy, crisp texture. Freeze drying also causes less damage to the fruit, letting to rehydrate better and preserve more of it's nutrition.

IS FREEZE DRIED FRUIT HEALTHIER THAN DEHYDRATED FRUIT?

Both freeze dried fruit and dehydrated fruit are healthy options. However, the heat used to dehydrate fruit does cause more loss of nutrition than freeze drying, which preserves a higher percentage of most nutrients. Freeze drying also removes more moisture than dehydrating, contributing to it's longer shelf life.
