Popping Tags And Prepping For Emergencies

Popping Tags And Prepping For EmergenciesSurvivalist prepping can be motivated by a number of reasons:

• Self-sufficiency
• Safety and emergency preparedness
• Lowering the carbon footprint
• Passing skills for responsibility on to younger generations

While emergency kits and long-term food storage items can be purchased as complete packages, this is not always in keeping with some of the motivations to have a greater freedom of lifestyle in the first place.

However, many of the supplies that can facilitate prepping for emergencies and living a more self-sufficient lifestyle can also be acquired for next to nothing. This includes items that can be found in thrift stores, flea markets, and even free recycling trade centers. Many useful items that are in good condition can be found in these places, including:

• Cast iron cookware
• Camping stoves
• Storage and water containers
• Tools and gear for fishing or hunting
• Lanterns
• Emergency radios

Along with obvious items for emergency situations, thrift stores also provide low cost supplies that can be altered for better utilization. This can include hack items like torn tents, which can be repaired or cobbled together for protective sheltering and warmth.

Further, thrift stores and flea markets are a goldmine when it comes to clothing, and the importance of warmth and dryness in layers is also necessary consideration in emergency situations. Using the thrift shop to stock up on these soft goods also means that they can be appropriately stored in places like the car, the shelter, or the emergency kit, without being missed in everyday needs.

Taking A New Perspective

In shopping a thrift store for survival gear, it can also be a good idea to have both a plan and a sense of playful creativity. Obvious good condition items are a definite great find, but being able to see how pieces of what is often considered junk can actually create something practical is a treasure in itself. This should also be a good indicator that the process of sustainability is not just in generating less waste, but also in taking the unassuming and turning into something that supports greater life.
